Vampire Weekend rocking their new album "Father of the bride"
Ezra Koenig and his band got back to Barcelona for a fabulous club show. It’s been nine years since their last gig over here in 2010.
This time Vampire Weekend are rocking "Father of the bride" - an album that mixes their characteristic guitars, Japanese ambient music, country duets, pulse funk-rock, Koenig's charisma, bright voice and ingenious lyrics.
The famous New York City band played a sold-out 2,5h show, delivering their most infallible classics like Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa or Unbelievers, and their new songs such as Bambina or This Life.
Opened to improvisation, Vampire Weekend performed One, played with the tempos in Rich Man, and distorted 2021 that went from a miniature to a monolith. Each member of the band contributed to a groove of magnetic disk-pop drift while playing Flower Moon - an expanded, delicate song, rocking it to the rhythm of bossa nova.
Later that night we got the triplet of classics - Diane Young, Cousins and A-Punk, followed by the alternative version of Sunflower with progressive suite airs, and a guitar solo. The band also played Sympathy, Holiday, the emotional Harmony Hall, and one of their best compositions - Step, which they performed involving the audience.
Vampire Weekend also took requests; among them, their version of Bruce Springsteen’s I’m Goin Down and Son of a Preacher Man by Dusty Springfield. They also sang spacious Big Blue ballad, Oxford Comma, Giving Up the Gun and Walcott. All of it made a singular show, a vibrant and intense performance. And hopefully it won’t take another 10 years to have them back.
