Julian Casablancas’ label, Cult Records, has turned 10 years.

To celebrate a decade, the label installed a pop-up shop, that took place on May 28 and 29 at 98 Orchard St. - Manhattan. It featured music, themed drinks, art, merch, and special exhibition listing most of Cult Records’ roster, including The Strokes, The Voidz, Albert Hammond Jr, The Growlers, Karen O, The Virgins, Surfbort, Har Mar Superstar and more.

The anniversary was celebrated with several DJ sets featuring Julia Cummings from Sunflower Bean, Surfbort’s Dani Miller, Public Access TV, The Virgins and Cerebral Ballz. The pop up also hosted a special immersive black light lounge at the ground level. On the main floor the visitors were able to delight in a film directed by Promiseland and a light installation created by Whoman.

After the 2 days that the pop up lasted, The Voidz played an intimate show at Market Hotel on May 29, and it was that rare occasion when we saw them in a place that small. Ahead of their appearance at Governors Ball festival, The Voidz delivered their best tunes at the packed show in Bushwick.

The band played a set that included brand-new single The Eternal Tao and a set of songs from Tyranny and Virtue albums. The sold out event began with the Promiseland and True Blue as openers, followed by Julian Casablancas and his pack of rockers. The Voidz bonded over their love of modern harmonies and beat-driven music, and this show was a clear example of their vision: crunchy guitars, hurried drums, vocoders and loopy synths.
